Here in Hawaii, we boast some of the world’s most beautiful beaches and, let’s admit, beach bodies.  But, this is the time of year when many of us are still recovering from the holidays and trying to stick to our New Year’s resolution to shed those few extra pounds.  The good thing is that there’s no shortage of fun workout routines here on the island that will help get you in shape without having to spend hours on the treadmill.

Take 360 Strong.  You might know it better as FitWiz, the TRX/boot camp class that you may have seen in action on the sands of Ewa Beach.  New to our area, it is now expanding into a new fitness facility in Kapolei, which is set to open in early February.  Pumping up their offerings, the facility will include mind/body workouts like Barre, TRX yoga and Pilates, as well as the traditional boot camp style classes that made them popular.

If you’re not familiar with TRX, don’t worry.  Sure it may look a bit like a trapeze act, but the suspension system provides you with a full body workout like no other. If being suspended several feet in the air is not your idea of a enjoying a workout, Hawaii’s mind and body exercises don’t end here. There are a host of incredible yoga and Pilates classes available at studios like Core Power Yoga, Paumalu Yoga, Upside Down Pilates, Yoga Loft Hawaii and HI Performance Pilates.Or take advantage of our beautiful surroundings with morning and sunset yoga classes with a group like Sunset Yoga Hawaii.

Possibly one of the toughest workouts around is CrossFit.  Combining aerobic exercise, gymnastics, and Olympic weight lifting, it has exploded in popularity and CrossFit gyms have popped up all over Oahu including CrossFit Oahu, Blue Coast CrossFit, CrossFit HTF and many more.

No matter how you decide to get in shape this New Year, there’s certainly no shortage of fun and effective workouts on Oahu.  Try a few of them, see what works for you and you just might find that 2014 is the year that your resolution sticks!
