Just one of the many benefits of living here in Hawaii is that we’re able to enjoy mild temperatures all year long. While much of the country is thawing out from a chilly (or frozen) winter, we’re always basking in warm temps. But that doesn’t mean we can’t benefit from some spring cleaning too. Now is a great time to clear out winter and get ready for summer. Plus, taking a little time to focus on your home now can help save you time and money down the road.
Here are some important tips to follow when inspecting your home this spring season:
Make a visual inspection of your roof. Look for signs of age such as curling, shrinking or broken/missing shingles.
Inspect your gutters and clean any build-up to help maintain a free-flowing gutter system.
Inspect the air conditioning system (if you have one) and change out the filter.
Inspect your lanai. Years can be tough on wood, so look for loose nails, boards and check for rotted boards that need to be fixed or replaced.
Inspect window and door screens. Inspect screens for holes and tears and make any necessary repairs.
Inspect drainage around the perimeter of your home to look for signs of settling or voids that would allow rain to run down into your foundation.
Inspect paint for signs of cracking or peeling paint and caulking, and make repairs necessary.
Taking a few minutes to inspect your home now will keep it looking good all year long. All, warm, year long! Let us know what other spring preparation tips we may be missing by commenting below or on our Facebook page.
