If you are anything like me, you’ve probably uttered the phrase “Houston, we have a problem” at least a few dozen times in your life. However, these words were the actual words once uttered in one of the most desperate moments in the history of the US Space Exploration Program. The Apollo 13 mission and crew believed they wouldn’t be returning home after a massive explosion crippled their rocket while on the way to the Moon, and like the human spirit, the endured and held onto hope. This scene from the movie Apollo 13 represents the longest journey home possibly in movie history, and in case you forgot what happens the crew does indeed survive their space ordeal to return home.
While Apollo 13 may be the only “coming home” movie that is based on actual events, there are five other contenders of this year’s #YourHome awards. So whether you feel Apollo 13 captured the true experience of coming home, or not, make sure you vote. You can find the voting poll at Coldwell Banker’s Blue Matter blog.
Remember, voting will open until 12 a.m. EST on 2/25 and don’t forget to catch the Oscars on Sunday, March 2, where we will be debuting our second TV ad for 2014.
