In the state of Hawaii, June 11 marks King Kamehameha Day, a holiday that celebrates Kamehameha the Great, who unified the Kingdom of Hawaii consisting of the eight Hawaiian islands in 1795. He was Hawaii’s first monarch and king.

The annual holiday is celebrated throughout the state with events that honor the memory of King Kamehameha and the history of Hawaii.

In North Kohala, on the island of Hawaii where King Kamehameha was born, June 11 is celebrated with the King Kamehameha Festival, featuring a parade, music and food.

On Oahu, visitors and residents alike can look forward to the annual King Kamehameha Floral Parade held this year on Saturday, June 14. The parade begins at 9 AM in Downtown Honolulu at the corner of King and Richards Streets and ends at Kapiolani Park in Waikiki. Enjoy music from marching bands and Hawaii’s Royal Hawaiian Band, floats adorned with plants and flowers native to the islands, traditional pa‘u riders and much more.
