Peace and unity. The two pillars Martin Luther King Jr. lived by. And two key elements in this upcoming weekend’s celebrations.

To honor the former minister and activist’s birthday, the Hawaii Martin Luther King, Jr. Coalition puts together a parade every year, this year falling on January 15, that ends with a unity rally celebration. The event encourages people to reflect upon the principles of interracial cooperation, equality and social change through nonviolent resolution of conflict.

In addition to the coveted parade, there are events taking place the entire weekend that pay homage to the late Dr. King.
